Synopsis
"There is a story the lands tell. Of a king who was so full of fear and ambition that he killed his own children... he stomped on them with his feet, until their blood squeezed out and their bones were crushed... until the blood and the bones became a soft powder of red dust. He poured it into the river and gulped the river whole.” Rida lives in a burnt shell of a house, feeling unwanted and unsafe. She tries to hold on to whatever she can to keep from feeling lost – memories, voices, land, water, and her ancestor Moidu who comes to her with stories and songs from a different time. She even leaves behind parts of herself in a bid to stake claim to the home she is driven out of. Mirroring her helplessness is the unnamed faceless Man, who is stuck in limbo as he tries to make his way to the other side with the help of the ancient water spirit, Bahri. An exploration of belonging and alienation, this play was long-listed (top 10) for the Hindu Playwright Award 2017.
