Synopsis
Mandap may be viewed as a play around the subject of deep rooted caste hatred in India in an existential perspective. It is one play in a trilogy in which the focus is on the family, rather than on individual personalities. As with the first two plays, Mandap has been developed with a case study platform. It is derived from the author’s field experiences as part of his professional engagements in several rural development programmes in India . The specifics of characterization and the dramatic content, however, are entirely fictional. The play is set in the estate of a landlord in a small town somewhere in the rural north of India . With some changes in the idiom it can be set in any other part of the country and played in another language.
