Synopsis

The Death of Jayadratha is a well-known episode from the Mahabharata. The short of the long is, Arjuna swears vengeance on Jayadratha for the death of Abhimanyu and with divine intervention causes his defeat and death. A conundrum posed itself - Why Jayadratha? The king of Sindhu did not defeat the Pandavas by subterfuge, but in direct combat. Jayadratha did not join in the combined attack on Abhimanyu, others did. Jayadratha did not attack an unarmed Abhimanyu, others did. And Jayadratha did not kill a fallen Abhimanyu, the son of Dussasana did. Then, why did Arjuna swear vengeance against Sindhuraja, when he was only following his Dharma, and more importantly why not against the real perpetuators of the dastardly act. Why Jayadratha? This play is an attempt to seek resolution for a mysterious happening on the night of the 13th day of the Kurukshetra war, the misplaced oath of Arjuna. Or was it? It is a one-person play, inspired by narratives from the Mahabharata.
