Synopsis

Vijay, high-ranking Police officer, Special Branch, in an Indian Metropolis is told by Anjali, Secretary Social Welfare that Brendan, Special Envoy of the American President and his wife Enid are arriving to fund a Muslim NGO. Basheer, a friendly NGO head, insists Ghanshyamdas, the Hindu MP, should chair the committee. Next day, Ghanshyamdas warns there will be a protest procession, and in a private moment asks Charles, American Cultural Attaché, if he has carte blanche. The following day, the protest turns into a riot but Vijay instructs the police not to use force. Basheer is killed. Anjali has a bitter quarrel with Vijay and leaves for Delhi. Vijay’s mother consoles him that Anjali was never a good wife since she was of low caste. The next afternoon Brendan who is sick goes to rest in his hotel room. Charles assures Enid in the coffee shop downstairs that their story that Muslim fundamentalists caused the riot will be believed and India will accept American presence especially after the death of the President’s Envoy. Enid says she has no regrets, Charles presses a button, there is a loud explosion, Enid faints, and Charles goes to see if Brendan is ‘safe.’
