Synopsis

Vincent’s unsuccessful love life forces him to leave London. He wanted to become an evangelist and gets a temporary appointment to serve the miners in a coal-mine area at Borinage at the South of Belgium. But the misery, and hunger of the poor miners force him to forget preaching the God’s words, which makes him lose the job. Aimless, he picks up a piece of charcoal to start sketching. His brother ‘Theo’ supports him financially. Vincent goes to Hague to learn painting from Mr. Anton Mauve. At Hague, he fails in love with Christine, a street woman, and wants to marry her. This embracing situation cuts all his relationships with everyone. Finally, they get separated. Vincent starts living with Theo at Paris and learns paintings in an art school where he meets a group of young painters and follows the techniques of Impressionism. His palette moves away from the dark shades to the vibrant hue of yellow. But gradually he feels suffocated, he can’t accept those pseudo-intellectuals of the art world. He craves for fresh air and bright sun. One fine morning he runs away towards a countryside village at Arles, where he hires a house for his studio. Delightfully, he paints The Sun Flowers, The Starry Night, The Night Café, Arles, The Red Vine, etc. He invites Paul Gauguin from Paris to stay with him. Unfortunately, they involve in severe arguments. One day during a quarrel, Vincent attacks Gauguin with an open razor. Gauguin escapes, but Vincent cuts his right ear out of furry. He is declared mad. He is sent to an asylum at Auvers. On 27th July 1890, he paints “Wheat field with the crows” and shots himself by a stolen revolver.
