About the play: A couple from a small town, living in a city like Bombay wants to be 'modern'. They want to get rid of traditional living and the lifestyle. It's the story of their dreams, ambitions, aspirations and traditional values which keeps coming in their way. A stranger, fortune teller enters their life on one lazy weekend. He smells something unpleasant in the house. That's a bull (Bail in Marathi). Metaphorically this bull represents the small town complex which they want to kill. But they are not yet able to kill it somehow!

जगण्याचा ?
आणि मग आधुनिक होण्याच्या ह्या समृद्ध वाटेवर एखादा बैल आडवा आला तर त्याला न मारता पुढे जाता येईल का?! अश्या अनेक प्रश्नांची उत्तरं शोधत असलेल्या युगंधर देशपांडे सोबत त्याच्या "बैल मेलाय" ह्या नाटकाच्या निमित्ताने संवाद साधूया २९ ऑक्टोबर रोजी सकाळी ११ ते १ ह्या वेळेत.
Translation:
Is it possible to become modern while also keeping in touch with our traditional roots? Is the only way to live a fulfilled life, through a lifestyle resplendent with material comforts? And then if a bull blocks this highway of prosperity to modernity, do we grab the bull by its horns or march on by circumventing it?
Join Vikrant Thakar in conversation with playwright Yugandhar Deshpande to explore answers to these questions and more after the reading of his Marathi play Bail Melay. The conversation will take place on the same day after the reading.
About the playwright: Yugandhar Deshpande is a playwright, theatre curator and a screenwriter. The films he has written are Phool, LalitA and an untitled anthology directed by Vikram Phadnis. As a playwright, Yugandhar has written ‘Bail Melay’, for which he was nominated Best Playwright at Maharashtra Times Sanman in 2016, ‘Agdich Shunya’, ‘Absoloute’ and others. He was also a Tendulkar-Dubey fellowship awardee in 2017. Currently, his new play ‘Sad Sakharam’ is under production.
